But what is actually behind the name Lalibela?
Lalibela is a city in Ethiopia that is unique in its historical significance. The history of Lalibela is closely linked with the Christian tradition of the country. According to tradition, King Lalibela received a commission from the angel of Christ to build a new Jerusalem after a vision. In the years that followed, he is said to have built 11 rock churches in the city, modeled after the Holy Land. These rock churches are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and are considered the most impressive testimonies of Christian architecture. With the name Lalibela we would like to pass on the beauty and splendor of this city to our guests.
